The Narrow Edge
A Tiny Bird, An Ancient Crab & An Epic Journey

Fly along with author Deborah Cramer and the endangered Red Knot on an epic journey!

In her award-winning book, The Narrow Edge: A Tiny Bird, An Ancient Crab, and an Epic Journey, Gloucester resident Deborah Cramer accompanies the Red Knot on its extraordinary journey and reveals how the lives of these endangered shorebirds, the ancient horseshoe crab and the humans along its migratory route are intertwined.

Plymouth's shoreline is of particular interest to Cramer as it was once home to a thriving colony of Horseshoe Crabs whose eggs are an important source of food for the Red Knot as it migrates 5,000 miles from one pole of the globe to the other. Once Plymouth's shoreline was literally crawling with Horseshoe Crabs, the skies filled with migrating Red Knot.

Can the locations of those Horseshoe Crab nurseries be identified and restored?

Can a local effort have a global effect?

A reception with the author at the Spire Center for the Performing Arts begins at 6:30 PM, followed by a lecture, question and answer session and book signing.

Refreshments and cash bar provided.

This event is free courtesy of the sponsorship of three local environmental organizations: The Living Observatory, The Herring Pond Watershed Association, and the Southeastern Massachusetts Pine Barrens Alliance.
